Safe Soulmate aims to help people with learning disabilities and/or autism, who live in Cambridgeshire, to find and nurture friendships and loving relationships with likeminded individuals in a SAFE way. We will work closely with Dhiverse, which provides excellent workshops to help people develop skills to build and maintain healthy friendships and relationships.
We will match people with learning disabilities and autism to likeminded and suitable adults, based on interests, and personality amongst other things. We are NOT an online site which is very risky, rather we visit individuals in their home, carry out a risk assessment, and ask for two references. There are two paid members of staff and we plan to recruit volunteers to act as chaperones and help at social events.
We are also a friendship agency, because we are aware that many people are simply desperately lonely for friendship. Most social events will be held in pubs and other venues alongside mainstream community to encourage social inclusivity. We are also planning to organise club nights for members.
The next large social event is late April/beginning of May, more details will be available on facebook, twitter and Instagram @safesoulmate or on the website: www.safesoulmate.org.uk
